Life at PazNaz

Thanksgiving Offering for World Mission
A special Thanksgiving Offering will be received through December 1 for Nazarene Global Missions. Please prayerfully consider giving above and beyond your regular tithes and offerings to extend God’s mission of love, salvation, and transformation around the world.

Gallery Doxa: Hope Peace Joy Love
The second part of PazNaz’s inaugural art show is on display through Sunday, December 29. Each of the pieces of art displayed in the Sanctuary Foyer reflects one of the traditional themes of Advent: hope, peace, joy, and love. Be sure to make some time this Advent season to let this art inspire and challenge you to consider what it means to wait for Christ with hope, peace, joy, and love. Art books with the pieces currently on display as well as those displayed in the first portion of Gallery Doxa art show are for sale in the PepperTree for $20. Take one home to use as part of your devotional practices this Advent.

Ladies Night Out: Hopeful
Ladies Night Out will be on Friday, December 6. There will be a silent auction at 5:00 pm with dinner beginning at 6:00 pm. The evening will feature guest speaker Natalia Kohn Rivera and the PazNaz Children’s Bell Choir. Tickets are $35 per person. A free children’s Christmas celebration is available with the purchase of an adult ticket and advanced registration. Tickets may be purchased on Sunday mornings on the patio or in the church office during the week.

Membership Class
Are you interested in knowing more about PazNaz? You are invited to participate in the PazNaz Membership Class on Saturday, December 7, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. You will learn about the beliefs, history, governance, worshiping communities, and the Mission and Vision of PazNaz. Attending the class does not obligate you to become a member.
To register for the class, please contact Melody Bundy at mbundy@paznaz.org or 626.351.2425, or indicate your interest on a Connect Card and place it in an offering plate or hand it to a pastor.

Pasadena Homeless Count
The Homeless Count sets in motion a year full of education, engagement, and action for the Pasadena Partnership. Each year, volunteers help count people experiencing homelessness living on the streets of Pasadena during one night in January.
Volunteers will be sent in teams of 4-5 to an assigned zone on the night of January 22 (8:00 – 10:00 p.m.) and the morning of January 23 (6:00 – 8:00 a.m.) to help count and administer a survey to our neighbors experiencing homelessness. The same teams go out together in the evening and the morning. Volunteers should be age 18+ and are asked to attend a virtual orientation to prepare for the count. For more information or to register as a volunteer, please visit www.pasadenapartnership.org/volunteer-homeless-count.

Winter Cap Collection
During the Homeless Count, volunteers will distribute care packages that include warm outerwear. PazNaz has agreed to collect knit caps (or beanies) that will be included in the cold weather care kits. Winter hats can be dropped off in the specially marked box in the Sanctuary foyer on Sunday mornings or in the church office during the week.

Blue Christmas
Not everyone is cheery for the Christmas holidays. Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer or some other disease that puts a question mark over the future, and a number of other human situations make parties and joviality painful for many people. Join PazNaz for this reflective service, accepting where we really are, while holding out for healing and hope on Wednesday, December 18, at 7:00 pm in Lee Chapel.

Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve at PazNaz is always special. Our hope is to faithfully remember the Christmas story through singing carols together, hearing scripture, and being invited into new and ancient ways the good news of Jesus birth can bring healing and hope to our community. Join the celebration on Tuesday, December 24, at 6:30 pm.

Christmas Sunday
On Sunday, December 29, the PazNaz English worshiping community will gather for worship at 9:30 am. Celebrate the birth of Jesus with us.

Common Table Learning Opportunities for Session 2

Classes begin COntinue through March 29, 6:15-7:30 pm. Click on a class title to register online.

Peace-Filled Conversations: Learning to Listen and Talk Like Jesus. Led by Pastor Brad Strawn & Rick Jackson, MFT | Reed Hall, Room 249 This class will be an experience in learning how to engage in peace filled, Christ-like conversations around difficult topics. It will be experiential in nature combining embodied practices of learning to settle ourselves, think theologically about Christ's approach to those that he differed with and practices for how to enter into genuine conversations that might change all involved. This is NOT a class on winning arguments, persuasion or being right. This is a class on growing in the image and likeness of the self-emptying sacrificial Christ that we worship.

Women’s Wednesday Experience Twelve More Women of the Bible Study Guide: Life-Changing Stories for Women Led by Joan Watkins & Cathy Cota | Gilmore Hall, South Through twelve sessions, with each focusing on one Biblical woman, this fresh look at the women of the Bible helps women discover new insights and provides a powerful witness to God’s gracious love that will leave you feeling challenged, encouraged, and deeply valued.

The Paradoxes of Jesus Led by Dr. Walker Railey | Reed Hall, Room 248
This class will focus on Jesus' encounters with others. Through these encounters we will see how Jesus defined the New Covenant then and now.
Men's Ministries: Diving Deeper Led by Marshall Jackman | Reed Hall, Room 246
Proverbs 27:17, As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
This class focuses on cultivating resilience in your life and in those around you.
Grief Support Group Led by Ginny Pedrotti and Pastor Darwin Ng | Reed Hall, Room 247
Grieving the loss of a loved one, a dream, physical abilities, and financial resources are just a few ways we experience loss. The PazNaz Grief Support Group can provide a safe space with support, care, and teaching as you journey through grief.

PazNaz Kids: CARAVAN Led by Pastor Jasmine Brenneman | The Cave (Lower Sanctuary 102)

Common Table-Oasis Led by Gretchen Moss | Lower Sanctuary, Room 114 Student Ministries: Hangout Led by Melissa Watte | Lower Sanctuary, Room 112 College and Careers: 5:45 - 7:15 pm Led by Debbie Jones Acker | Gilmore Hall
