Pastor Aaron Gregory
“A New Kind of Family”
Ephesians 5:21 - 6:9
Quotes from the Sermon
“The Messiah’s own self-giving love as the radical model for the husband’s vocation to serve his bride. So we learn about marriage by thinking of Messiah and church; but we learn even more about Messiah and church by thinking about marriage. Heaven and earth; Gentile and Judean together; the body building itself up in love; and now female plus male in marriage. The mystery revealed. The Bible in miniature. Tinker with it at your peril.”
“Within this Christian vision for marriage, here’s what it means to fall in love. It is to look at another person and get a glimpse of the person God is creating, and to say, “I see who God is making you, and it excites me! I want to be part of that. I want to partner with you and God in the journey you are taking to his throne. And when we get there, I will look at your magnificence and say, ‘I always knew you could be like this. I got glimpses of it on earth, but now look at you!’” Each spouse should see the great thing that Jesus is doing in the life of their mate through the Word, the gospel. Each spouse then should give him- or herself to be a vehicle for that work and envision the day that you will stand together before God, seeing each other presented in spotless beauty and glory.”
Challenge for the Week
Choose one place this week, home, work, or school, and ask: “What would it look like for me to live like Jesus here?” Then do one thing differently.

Book Group: The Book of Love, by Richard Beck
Led by Dr. Brad Strawn | The Pepper Tree, Ramirez Room
If you would like to learn and discuss how to read the Bible well, join Pastor Brad as he walks through the book "The Book of Love." The author offers a bold and compassionate reimagining of how we read the Bible. Drawing from personal experience, theological insight, and psychological depth, Beck challenges the fear-based, legalistic interpretations that have long dominated many Christian traditions and invites us to approach Scripture through the lens of love--God's love for humanity and our call to love one another. If you would like to join this group, please register and purchase a book as soon as you can.
