When we say, “Jesus is Lord”, we are making a bold and audacious claim. A claim that goes beyond an individualized and personal relationship – it’s bigger than saying “Jesus is Lord of my own heart.” No, it’s more profound than that. As the people of God (followers of Jesus, Christians, disciples, the Church) we believe in the unchanging affirmation that Jesus Christ – who is ascended and reigns as King and Lord, who sits at the right hand of God – is one whom exercises his reign, rule, and dominion over the world. We believe, then, that King Jesus – by his life, teachings, cross, resurrection, ascension, and outpouring of the Spirit – has triumphed over the principalities and powers of this world. It is under his reign and rule that a radically new kind of kingdom has been and is being established in the people of God. We are not, therefore, marked by the rulers-of-the-day’s agendas, plans, and ideas.
