While on house arrest, the Apostle Paul pens his letter to the church in Colossae. Paul has a big pastoral concern: Many are trying to falsely teach that Jesus isn’t really divine. But for Paul, Jesus is everything. Jesus is supreme. Jesus is King. Having a clear view of Jesus is critical for understanding how the King’s citizens are to live. When one has a clear view of the King and the King’s heart, a life of obedience to the King is then the way of the King’s kingdom. Heartfelt obedience to the King is for the King’s glory, however, it is in stark contrast to the ways of the empire.
