For more than two decades, PazNaz Compassionate Ministries has been devoted to providing support and assistance to the poor and marginalized in our City.Today, its relief assistance programs, community development partnerships, and justice ministries are making a difference throughout Los Angelesand beyond U.S.borders.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands, a community food bank and clothing assistance program, provides necessary items and spiritual support to more than 600 households in the San Gabriel Valley each month. The food bank and clothing assistance program is located in the western section of the lower Sanctuary, next to Reed Hall.

The hours for receiving these items are between 2:00 and 4:00 pm, Wednesday and Thursday. Proper identification and proof of residency in Pasadena, Altadena, or Sierra Madre restrictions apply.

Contact Compassionate Ministries to volunteer for and/or benefit from these programs.

Church in the Park

Church in the Park provides a hot breakfast and spiritual enrichment to 150 people from Pasadena’s homeless community each week (600 monthly) at Central Park near Old Town Pasadena. Each Sunday, breakfast is served at 8:45 am and a short worship service follows in the Park.

Any and all are invited to volunteer to help with this ministry.

Community Development

Community Development is the way that we intentionally build the capacities of others – working toward a healthy, just and sustainable community.Compassionate Ministries participates in community development initiatives alongside the following strategic community partners: Bresee Foundation; Child S.H.A.R.E; Elizabeth House; Harambee Ministries; Neighborhood Urban Family Center; and, Foothills Pregnancy Resource Center.

Each year, PazNaz provides backpacks and school supplies to more than 400 children through "Blessing of the Backpacks," a school-supply drive for children in need. Plus, each Christmas season, Compassionate Ministries sponsors a bundle of service opportunities called "Christmas of Compassion." Through this initiative, the PazNaz family provides shoes and crisis care packages to the members of Church in the Park, serves hospitality and gifts to low-income families at the Helping Hands Christmas party, and provides gifts to needy children through the “Christmas for the Community Toy Drive.”

Contact Compassionate Ministries for more information regarding the above service opportunities. You can also visit the PazNaz Compassionate Ministries Facebook Page for the latest information.

World Mission and International Development

“Compassion Creates Change Nicaragua” is a cooperative effort between Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene (PazNaz) and the Nazarene Nicaragua Central District.

During Phase I in 2011, nearly 50 team members from PazNaz constructed a multi-purpose church and school; offered child development programming; and, hosted a medical clinic with nutritional screening for children in two villages. Research from this trip documented that nearly 40% percent of children in these villages suffer from moderate acute to chronic stages of malnutrition. This year Compassion Creates Change Nicaragua will launch a nutritional program and hire a national doctor to manage the capacity development of 150 children.

If you are interested in being a part of Compassion Creates Change Nicaragua 2012 you can find the video on the PazNaz Compassionate Minsitries Facebook Page www.facebook.com/PazNazCompassionateMinistries. The kickoff meeting is February 19 at 12:30pm in Gilmore Hall. You can also download the application form for 2012 here. Applications are due March 11.
